Annual Teddy Roosevelt Weekend September 7-9 2007

Our annual Teddy Roosevelt weekend in Newcomb is held the weekend after Labor Day. Come join us in celebrating the life and times of Theodore Roosevelt, especially his connection to Newcomb. There’s something for everyone both days.

This annual event is sponsored by the Town of Newcomb and the Newcomb Chamber of Commerce.

Friday September 7th

International Welcoming Dinner
A kick off to the Teddy Roosevelt Weekend includes meeting the foreign exchange students and an international pot luck food contest. Foods will be judged in various categories with an overall best in show. Guest speakers Theresa Sayward and Newcomb Supervisor George Canon will help welcome our new students to Newcomb. $5 per person

Historical displays of Town of Newcomb 10am-2pm

Wild Life Puppeteers
Kids of all ages can learn about the animals of the Adirondacks. Overlook 11am

Leonard and His Looney Locals 1pm Historical building

Historical guided tours of Newcomb 2pm meet at overlook for bus

Huntington Nature Tour
Meet at the Adirondack Ecological Center for an informative lecture on the return of moose, loons and mercury and other topics as you tour Arbutus Lake and the Huntington Great Camp on foot with ecologist Stacy McNulty. Wear sturdy hiking shoes!. 3:30-4:30pm

Homespun at over look at 6:30-8:30pm. Enjoy music and folkdancing

The best FIREWORKS in the Adirondacks! Overlook at dark (8:30pm)

Wild Life Puppeteers
Kids of all ages can learn about the animals of the Adirondacks. Overlook 11:30am

TR Naturalist Challenge. Noon at the overlook. Prizes, Test you knowledge of woods and water in this fun, drop-in hands-on test.

History of Ghost Town of Adirondac and Blast Furnace. 2-4:30pm Upper Works. History of the Village of Adirondac and Iron Works blast furnace. Hear of life long ago, tour ghost town, see the restoration of the McNaughton Cottage where Theodore Roosevelt once visited and learn more about the MacIntyre Mining operation. Please leave at least 1/2 hour travel time to reach the Upper Works parking lot from Newcomb.

Free Wagon Rides into Santanoni Farm and Guided Tours by former Santanoni Intern Dorothea Malsbary . Every hour 10am-2pm Saturday and Sunday

Free Pony Rides. 11am-2pm daily at Aunt Polly's

Displays and Demonstrations at the overlook. Chamber of Commerce Booth, postcards, Rustic Furniture, Guide Boats

Plenty of home cooked meals and treats at various locations around town
